Sentences with Greater Impact

I picked up a helpful piece of advice from Maralys Wills' interview on The Writing Show podcast. She suggests putting the most powerful word in your sentence, or the action of your sentence, last.
For example, instead of writing, "They jumped in the river on a hot day," write, "On a hot day they jumped in the river." Or, instead of "Death is the thing I fear the most," write, "The thing I fear the most is death."
That way the reader is left with the most important part of the sentence foremost in their mind, and your sentence takes on a crisper tone and a greater sense of authority.
